Swire Shipping Backs Carbon Tax, Sets 2050 Net Zero Target

China Navigation subsidiary IMO and set itself a target of cutting its emissions to net zero by
2050 at the latest. Marshall Islands IMO proposal to be discussed at the
Marine Environment Protection Committee later this month to impose a global greenhouse gas emission levy on the shipping industry, it said in a statement on its website on Tuesday. The company will also seek to reduce its emissions to net zero by, and preferably well before 2050, it said. It plans to offer emission offsets to its customers, and ultimately move towards running its fleet on alternative fuels.

A Hudson Bay man has appeared in court again, in connection with an arson in that town. On May 12th, Mounties attended a home in the Leason Trailer Court, trying to locate a man wanted on outstanding warrants. Officers heard a bang from an outbuilding and observed smoke coming from it. They found the suspect, and gas and propane tanks inside, and managed to remove them and extinguish a small fire before anyone could be injured. 30-year-old Matthew Barker was in Melfort Court yesterday, where he was remanded in custody to June 21st.
